There are a couple of ways to do this:

The teacher takes pictures of buildings and landmarks around the community, then provides them as a prompt for discussion or writing. On a field trip, students can also take their own photos. This helps them to focus in on their surroundings and notice the things we see everyday but take for granted.

Photographs of prominent people in the community can also be taken from newspapers or online to increase student recognition.

Together with students, make a travel brochure depicting interesting places in your community. It does not have to be fancy; as with other lessons, photos can be printed in black & white on paper and photocopied.

Students can make posters using photographs of places or people in their communities.
